Jeffery Memorial Trophy
When Cecil W Jeffery died unexpectedly in 1910 at the age of thirty, subscriptions were raised to 7/6d - seven shillings and sixpence! - to pay for a silver memorial trophy in his honour. It's about the size of the FA Cup.

Before his death, Mr Jeffery had himself generously presented the Rose Bowl Trophy to the club to be played for in perpetuity as the individual club championship.

The Jeffrey was originally intended as the club's handicap trophy, but no sooner was it hallmarked than handicapping went out of fashion. Pawn-and-move, etc, is not acceptable to modern tastes. Any less than the requisite number of pieces on the board just doesn't seem right these days. Time handicaps were played for a while, but slowly but surely the trophy became obsolete, unloved and unused.

The general feeling at the club is that the best place for it to reside would be in the Leeds City museum.

Condition Report

The trophy remains in good condition. The base is scuffed, but it is made of wood so it only adds to the character.
